Lake District trail weekend
may 2027

only 10 spots left

Day to day activities*

May 2027 | Rusland Valley

Four days in the fells, with your people

We’re heading to the Lake District from Friday 7 to Monday 10 May 2027, sixteen of us under one roof at Rookhow Bunkhouse in the Rusland Valley, recceing the Lakeland 50 and 100 course with guided runs every day, proper food, workshops and yoga, and then sleeping like we’ve earned it (because we will have).

If you’ve got Lakeland in your diary this is the weekend that turns the route from a line on a map into something your legs recognise. If you haven’t, and you just want a few days in the hills with good company and someone else doing the planning, you are every bit as welcome. Not everyone here is racing, and that’s sort of the point.

What’s Included

✅ Your bed at Rookhow
✅ Expert coaching, hands-on workshops and support from qualified coaches
✅ All your meals (apart from the pub dinner)
✅ All your guided runs
✅ Yoga with 'Off The Clock Yoga'

Getting to the weekend is down to you but we'll help sort lift shares so no-one is driving up the M6 alone.

Where we're staying

Rookhow is a 300 year old Quaker meeting house and bunkbarn tucked away on the edge of Grizedale Forest, with its own ancient woodland out the back. It’s quiet, it’s beautiful, and it’s a short drive to the Lakeland routes. Bunks, a shared kitchen and a lot of other runners’ kit drying everywhere.

Overview

Day 1 – FRIDAY

*itinerary subject to slight changes we will email you the concrete itinerary closer to the trip

Friday is arrival, claiming a bunk and heading straight back out for an easy shakeout through the woods from the door, with an optional head torch loop after dinner for anyone who wants to practise in the dark (most Lakeland 50 runners finish that way, so it’s worth it). Then dinner and a proper walk through the mandatory kit list so nobody gets caught out.

Day 2 – SATURDAY

Saturday is the big one, a circular route on the first half of the Lakeland 50 course around Haweswater, Mardale Head and Gatesgarth Pass, somewhere between 10 and 13 miles, all of us together. In the evening it’s dinner and a fuelling workshop, because eating on long days is a skill and we’re going to practise it.

Day 3 – sunday

Sunday we do the same on the second half of the course, a loop taking in Elterwater, Chapel Stile, Blea Tarn and Tilberthwaite. The afternoon is for stretching, lying down and recovering, then a race strategy session on checkpoints, cut offs, pacing and the night section. Dinner on Sunday is at the pub nearby, pay your own way.

day 4 - monday

Monday we head up the Walna Scar road on the opening leg of the 100, as far as your legs fancy, then lunch, a group photo and home by early afternoon. There’s yoga woven through the weekend too, which you will thank me for on Sunday morning. We’ll also be adding workshops for anyone not racing Lakeland, and I’ll share those soon.

is this for me?

do I need to be racing lakeland 50/100?

Not at all. Plenty of people are coming just for the hills, and the weekend works just as well if you want a few days of proper fell running with someone else doing the planning.

how fit do I need to be?

You’ll want to be comfortable running 10 to 13 miles on hilly trail at an easy pace. Walking the steep bits is very much allowed, and we run together as a group, so nobody gets left behind.

What kit do I need?

You’ll want to be comfortable running 10 to 13 miles on hilly trail at an easy pace. Walking the steep bits is very much allowed, and we run together as a group, so nobody gets left behind.

Can I come if I’m not an ITR member?

Yes, there are places for non-members. Members just get a discount, so if you were already thinking about joining, now’s a good time.

Can I come for just two nights?

Yes. The two night option runs Friday to Sunday, and you head home after Sunday’s run. You’ll miss the race strategy session and Monday’s run, but you still get both big days on the course, the kit and fuelling workshops, and the yoga.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. You can pay in full when you book, or split it into three payments, with the second and third due in January and March.

How do I get there?

Getting to Rookhow is down to you, but we’ll help sort lift shares so nobody’s driving up the M6 alone.

Is food included?

All your meals are included apart from the Sunday night pub dinner, which is pay your own way. You will need to bring your own gels and run food!

Limited spaces availible. Are you up for the adventure?
