Your First Ultra Starts Here

What does it actually take to run further than a marathon?

Six weeks. One question answered properly. Ipswich Trail Runners' first ultra course starts 15 October. Ipswich Trail Runners is running a six week first ultra course this October and November, built for anyone in Suffolk who's done a marathon and started wondering what an ultramarathon actually involves. If you've been searching for ultra marathon training for beginners, or a trail running course near Ipswich that actually explains the jump from road marathons to ultra distance, this is it. We're not a big commercial ultra coaching outfit, we're a local trail running club that's coached people through their first 50k and beyond, and we've built this course out of exactly what we wish someone had told us before our own first attempts. Across six Thursday evening sessions, running 15 October to 19 November, we cover everything a first time ultra runner actually needs. Mental preparation for ultra running and the psychology of pushing past marathon distance, ultra marathon training essentials and how load and structure differ from road training, fuelling strategy for long distance running and what to do when your stomach stops cooperating mid-race, race pack essentials and how to use an aid station properly, race week preparation and tapering, and finally a full race simulation at Sea You in Felixstowe with marshals and a real aid station set up, so you're practising under proper race conditions before it counts. Whether you're training for your first 50k, your first 100k, or you're just ultra curious and want to know what you're getting into, this course is built for beginner and intermediate trail runners across Ipswich and Suffolk who want proper grounding before their first ultramarathon. Book the whole six week programme for £60, or drop into individual sessions at £12 each if there's one topic you need most.
